Shanna Bookal is a Sergeant in JROTC, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. She enjoys that class because to her “ It’s like a big integrated family; and the instructors are the mentors.” Despite all the people thinking everyone in this class is recruited into the army, they actually learn community service, military history and customs, how to become better citizens, and becoming successful young ladies and gentlemen.
Bookal thinks JROTC is a very beneficial class and earns the ability to strengthen her mind and her body. Character, levels of discipline, respect, efficiency, and other aspects are also improved from taking this course. In class, she doesn’t feel like she’s in the army but joining is one of her options in her future. She is aspires to be a Pediatric doctor and go to Harvard, but the military would further strengthen her abilities to think quickly and have experience in many unique environments if she were to join.
She actually likes wearing the JROTC uniform in school because “It’s a symbol of pride and unity. Many soldiers have shed blood, sweat, and tears to the benefit of our country. To be able to wear the uniform is a privilege.”
